Bite of the Apple Tours' early expansion mirrored the growth that the City of New York's tourism industry witnessed during the economic boom of the late nineties. Our current wave of growth combines the return of the international traveller with the domestic market, whose loyalty helped us rebound from the post 9-11 challenges. From it's humble inception of a dozen or so "clunker bikes", the founders' vision and dream of offering a leisurely, escorted tour of central park has been realized. These thrice daily bicycle tours of Central Park escorted by Bite of the Apple's very energetic and informed multilingual tour guides, afford participants the opportunity to view Central Park as an oasis full of hidden treasures. Appearing in WHERE New York's spring 1997 issue's "Exploring New York" feature story, senior editor Francis Lewis was quick to point out "The only requirement for enjoying the tour is that you know how to ride a bike." Once again, WHERE NY, featured our bike tour in the August 2005 summer issue, "Pedaling in the Park", as a great way to beat the heat! Click here to read this article. Finally, the Central Park Bike Tour was featured in Conde Nast Traveller Hot List spring 1998 issue when Adam Platt's full week tour of NYC included the bike tour. On his final day, he comments on its appeal to groups. "The business has grown to a point where on some summer days they'll take eighty people cycling past the zoo, around the reservoir, stopping at different sites along the way." Because of the many international journalists who have participated on the tour over the years and subsequently wrote articles, it's not uncommon to find participants from four different continents taking the tour on any given day. Although the Central Park Bike Tour has been Bite of the Apple's flagship tour, recent additions such as the "Central Park Movie Scenes and Celebrity Trivia Bike Tour" as well as the "Manhattan Island Bike Tour" have served as fine compliments and are offered on the weekends. Finally, as a proud member of the New York City Visitors and Convention Bureau, we were very pleased to receive this valuable testimonial this past spring "NYC Visitors and Convention Bureau is pleased to acknowledge Bite of the Apple Tours as a valuable member since February of 1994. The bicycle tours provide an invaluable service to New York City Tourists. What better way to explore the wonderful treasures of New York than on bike!" We look forward to our continued partnership together to promote Bite of the Apple Tours and our great city. We here at Bite of the Apple Tours are very grateful for all those participants who have already come into contact with us and look forward to sharing our tours to the newcomers for many more years to come. |
